When you’re passionate about something, you want to share it with others. Maybe you’re an avid reader and enjoy dissecting the plot of the latest best-selling novel. Or you like to spend your weekends paying your dues to the dirt, hiking through some of the best local trails.
With a little help from the internet, you can find a club for just about anything — including coins.
Coin clubs allow people to discuss the history of coins and currency, as well as the role they play in society.
Joining a Coin Club
There are more than 400 American Numismatic Association (ANA) member coin clubs across the U.S. — and even some abroad. You can find the one nearest to you by searching the ANA’s club directory. If you’d like to learn more about specific types of coins or currency, whether it’s primitive money or World War II military currency, you can even use the directory to search by interest. Can’t find a coin club that suits your needs? You might consider starting one of your own.
Starting a Coin Club
All coin clubs must follow a set of standards outlined by the United States Mint, including:
- Be a non-profit organization that supports numismatics and the hobby of coin collecting
- Be open to all individuals, without discrimination against any one group
- Provide publically accessible educational materials, related to the history of coins and currency
If your group meets these standards, you can email licensing@usmint.treas.gov with the following information:
- Your name, address and phone number
- Your organization’s name and address
- Your website URL (include links to your homepage, charter that shows membership is open to everyone, and publically accessible educational materials)
